Job Description:

As a Mechatronics Engineer at Reality Labs, you will be responsible for developing precision optical components that are core to delivering transformative experiences for next generation AR and VR products. You will join a team that is working on radically new concepts and approaches. You will develop prototypes and products, establish new process capabilities with supply-chain partners, and release product sub-systems that are fully hardened for high-volume manufacturing. We are looking for individuals who work well in teams that involve a wide range of disciplines, that seamlessly transition between brainstorming big ideas and paying attention to critical details that enable the technologies' success. Originated from a robust engineering background and a data driven approach, the ideal candidate should demonstrate rich experience through a successful track record of bringing products and systems from concept to mass production.

Mechatronics Engineer (Process Automation) Responsibilities:

  • Develop precision optical components for AR/VR devices from concept to mass production.
  • Drive external vendor collaborations and be responsible from design or prototype to manufacturing automated solutions for process optimization, metrology, and quality control.
  • Identify automated solutions with manufacturing processes on optical components.
  • Drive integration of manufacturing equipment for end-to-end optical manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to devise and execute on program priorities.
  • Develop architectures, tooling needs, automation plans, product launch plans and create comprehensive plans for prioritizing technical and resourcing challenges.
  • Qualify automated systems for high volume manufacturing: Perform FAI, Cp/Cpk, and repeatability studies.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Master's degree in Mechanical, Robotics, Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent experience.
    • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing and process automation.
    • Experience in embedded control Electro-Mechanical systems, including equipment design, machine design, system development and product integration.
    • Experience with motion controls, computer vision implementation.
    • Understanding of mechatronics, and digital controls.
    • Experience with CAD tools and statistical analysis software.
    • Experience with sourcing, installing, commissioning off-the-shelf and custom robotic/mechatronic systems with robust testing, qualification and validation protocols.
    • Experience with equipment troubleshooting, data analysis for problem solving and root cause analysis.
    • Experience working and collaborating in a cross-functional team environment.

      Preferred Qualifications:
      • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Engineering or equivalent experience.
      • 7+ years of experience with automation and robotics in high volume manufacturing.
      • Experience with Optical fabrication processes.
      • Experience in novel manufacturing techniques, processes, and materials.
      • Experience implementing inline inspection systems in high volume production for metrology, characterization, and cosmetics.
      • Experience with optical component handling.
      • Experience with front-end back-end handling systems and material movement layouts systems.
      • Experience with DOE design and data analysis for problem solving and root cause analysis.
