Job OverviewAerojet Rocketdyne has an immediate need for a Senior Avionics Project Engineer to support our electronic programs in Redmond, WA.You will play an important role as a member of the Electronics organization in development of state of the art electronics for spacecraft power, electric propulsion systems, and for other products for operation in harsh environment applications for land, sea, air, and space. We develop power systems ranging from 10's of Watts to 100's of kWs, and complex Engine Control Systems for liquid and solid propellant rockets. Our power converters have a mixture low voltage analog, high voltage analog, mixed signal, and digital circuitry and firmware. Great communication skills, creativity, passion, and technical depth and breadth will enable you to work effectively with cross functional (electrical, mechanical, software, system, test, and program management) product development teams. You will work on all phases of product development from proposal/concept/feasibility to design, test, production, and follow on support. Due to the nature of the work routine on-site work is expected. There is flexibility to perform some remote work.Key ResponsibilitiesYou will be the project or IPT (Integrated Process Team) lead who ensures the work gets done. Teams are composed of the necessary disciplines and may be comprised of Electrical, Test, Manufacturing, Mechanical, System, Firmware, and Software Engineers as well as engineering technicians, supply chain, quality, and operations personnel.As the lead you will be responsible for creating project plans, risk management plans, contingency plans, and schedules, etc. You will also execute to those plans, adapt as necessary when issues occur, and provide status updates to internal and externa stakeholders.This job is in a dynamic environment. Projects may involve internal research and development where new technologies are developed. Other projects may involve implementation of technology, or modification of existing products. Priorities can change, as well as funding profile, resource availability, and technical issues. Resources may be local as well as remote to the Redmond site.This position requires a generalist who works well with different specialties and can balance, cost, schedule, and performance. As the projects are complex it is imperative to know when and how to reach out to others to come up with solutions, listen actively to others' ideas, think outside the box, and drive consensus. When things go wrong it is essential to remain composed, optimistic, and respectful to bring out the best ideas and foster an environment of trust. Among the duties will be customer presentations and submittals, as well as coordinating activities with internal organizations such as Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, and Test. Estimated workload distribution:70% - Lead engineering project or Integrated Project Team for development of high-performance electrical products, systems, and subsystems. Projects may be customer facing or internal research and development. Tasks include:
    • Create project plans including schedule, cost/effort, risks, opportunities, manpower, and skill set needs.
    • Understand priorities to ensure work is performed in order of highest priority.
    • Conduct team meetings to ensure efficient execution by track status and addressing roadblocks.
    • Coordinate activities with other departments, disciplines, outside suppliers, etc.
    • Perform detailed planning of future activities and perform contingency planning when things go wrong.
    • Monitor risks and opportunities to ensure timely risk reduction and ability to leverage opportunities as they arise.
    • Present results at internal and external status meetings.
    • Create and review lessons learned to ensure continuous improvement.
    • Close out project when program is finished. 20% - Perform miscellaneous electrical engineering tasks as an individual contributor to projects. Your personal background and interests as well as business need will help drive how and at what level you contribute.10% - Prepare proposals for future work.RequirementsRequires a Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline with Electrical Engineering preferred, and 5 or more years or related experience or equivalent combination of experience and education.Additional Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:
        • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
        • Experience working in multidisciplinary team developing electronic products.
        • Experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams preferred.
        • Previous experience designing or developing electronic products is preferred.
        • Experience with rocket engine or electric propulsion technology development is preferred.
        • Experience working in a regulated or high reliability environment such as space, aviation, defense, or medical is a plus.
        • Earned Value Management experience a plus.
        • PMP certification is a plus.Requires U.S. Citizenship or status as a U.S. Person. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.Work Environment/Physical Requirements:Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.Pay range for this position:100,000 - 147,333 per year Note about pay range:Pay range for this job level is a general guideline only for California and/or Washington State and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
