Manager Nursing - Labor and Delivery at Providence Health and
Services summary: The Manager Nursing - Labor and Delivery at
Swedish First Hill oversees all clinical and operational activities
in the labor and delivery unit, ensuring high-quality patient care
and staff management in accordance with medical center standards.
This role involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams,
leadership in quality improvement, staff retention, and the
implementation of diversity and inclusion initiatives. Candidates
must hold a nursing license and have clinical and management
experience in related nursing areas with a focus on maternal and

is accountable for the overall management and leadership of a unit
or a group of patient care units within Nursing Services. The
manager is responsible for all clinical and operational activities
of the units in accordance with Swedish Medical Center's mission,
vision, and values. Swedish First Hill Campus, located on the hill
just above downtown Seattle, is seeking a dedicated and dynamic
Labor and Delivery (L&D) Manager. Our campus serves a very
diverse patient population with equally diverse provider and
caregiver teams, fostering a unique and collaborative environment.
Department Overview Labor and Delivery: 30 labor beds OB ED: 9 beds
total OB ORs: 4 operating rooms Births: Approximately 550-600 per
month Deliveries: Starting from 22-23 weeks gestation NICU: Level 4
with 77 beds Teams: Includes MFM team, Midwifery, OB, Family
Medicine Programs: Addiction Recovery program for pregnant/laboring
patients and postpartum couplets, Doula and Cultural Navigators
24/7 Services: Anesthesia, Laborist, and Neonatology 5 EAST Main
L&D Unit: 6 bed OB ED, 14 labor rooms, 2 ORs, Charge RN, and
Laborist 5 South: Scheduled C-sections, overflow labor, occasional
Antepartum or Postpartum overflow, Charge RN Accountable for
ensuring the provision of patient care 24 hours a day. Accountable
for assigned clinical operations, patient care activities,
coordinating patient care delivery on a daily basis in
collaboration with other members of the health care team. Ensures
that patient care is delivered in accordance with professional,
regulatory, and medical center standards. Establishes and enforces
standards of patient care and nursing practice pertaining to areas
of responsibility. Is accountable for developing, implementing, and
monitoring unit-based quality improvement programs. Responsible for
developing and implementing unit-based goals for the delivery of
quality patient care. Assures compliance with department standards
by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the delivery
of patient care by reinforcing positive outcomes and demonstrating
corrective action for identified problems. Accountable for
appropriate patient care based on assignments of appropriate
patient assignments, evaluation of patient care and patient/family
satisfaction by conducting rounds and intervening accordingly.
Assumes the role of patient advocate to clarify and evaluate
ethical and/or legal issues, and supports cultural practices.
Assumes accountability for staff retention by tracking staff
turnover rate of all categories of personnel and actively taking
steps to ensure the reduction of turnover among her/his staff.
Demonstrates clinical competence by assisting with patient care in
order to maintain clinical skills. Spend time on all shifts to
assess care and to coach, develop, evaluate and advocate for staff.
Collaborates with the clinical nurse specialist and/or clinical
educator to identify, plan, and implement an educational program
pertinent to the service and for all level of staff. Hears and
adjusts up to step-two grievances. Leadership Qualities and Job
Requirements We are looking for an individual who is engaged,
personable, and focused on collaboration within the L&D
leadership team and the Women & Children (W&C) leadership team.
The ideal candidate will share responsibility for quality, finance,
staffing, and the patient and caregiver experience. This role
reports directly to the L&D Manager. The Senior manager,
manager, and clinical supervisor work collaboratively to run the
department. Top Priorities and Goals Continue to focus on culture
work surrounding our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts
for patients, caregivers, and providers. Recent accomplishments
include the implementation of the TEAMBirth and the Doula and
Cultural Navigator programs. Emphasize quality metrics, including
NTSV, and collaborate with the RN team for sustained improvement.
Partner with the CNS, Perinatal Educator, and team on
evidence-based practice changes. Interview and hire experienced
staff RNs, travelers, and candidates for the residency/fellowship
program for L&D Required qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in
BSN from an accredited school of nursing, or ADN and a commitment
to obtain BSN within two years of date of hire. Upon hire:
Washington Registered Nurse License Upon hire: National Provider
BLS - American Heart Association 3 years of recent experience in
related clinical area of nursing. Must meet criteria of Registered
Nurse. Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree in Nursing or
related field. 1 year First line management experience. Why Join
