Job Description Job Description Role Summary Our client, a large
academic medical center serving a diverse urban population, is
seeking a dynamic and experienced Labor & Delivery Nurse Manager to
lead a high-volume Women & Children’s service line. This role
provides operational and clinical leadership across multiple
L&D-related units and is accountable for 24/7 patient care
delivery, staff engagement, quality outcomes, and regulatory
compliance. The Nurse Manager will work closely with senior nursing
leadership, clinical supervisors, and interdisciplinary teams in a
highly collaborative environment. Department Overview (High-Level)
High-volume Labor & Delivery service with approximately 550–600
births per month Multiple labor rooms, obstetric emergency beds,
and operating rooms Level IV NICU supporting extremely premature
and high-acuity deliveries Care provided starting at 22–23 weeks
gestation Multidisciplinary teams including: Obstetrics Midwifery
Maternal-Fetal Medicine Family Medicine 24/7 in-house support
services (anesthesia, laborist coverage, neonatology) Specialized
programs supporting culturally responsive care and substance use
recovery during pregnancy and postpartum Key Responsibilities
Provide overall leadership and management of assigned Labor &
Delivery and OB-related units. Ensure continuous, high-quality
patient care delivery 24 hours per day in accordance with
professional, regulatory, and organizational standards. Establish,
implement, and enforce standards of nursing practice and patient
care. Develop, implement, and monitor unit-based quality
improvement initiatives and performance metrics. Oversee daily
clinical operations, staffing assignments, patient flow, and
coordination of care. Conduct patient and staff rounding to
evaluate care quality, patient satisfaction, and operational
effectiveness. Serve as a patient advocate, supporting ethical
decision-making and culturally responsive care practices. Lead
staff retention efforts, monitor turnover trends, and implement
strategies to improve engagement and stability. Maintain clinical
competence by periodically assisting with patient care and
supporting staff across all shifts. Partner with clinical educators
and specialists to plan and implement education and competency
programs. Participate in grievance resolution up to designated
leadership thresholds. Recruit, interview, and hire experienced
RNs, travelers, and participants for residency or fellowship
programs. Leadership Focus & Strategic Priorities Advance
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives for patients,
caregivers, and providers. Support and sustain evidence-based
practice initiatives and quality metrics (including obstetric
quality indicators). Collaborate with clinical educators and CNS
partners on practice change and staff development. Strengthen unit
culture, teamwork, and caregiver experience. Share accountability
for quality, staffing, finance, and patient experience outcomes.
Required Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from
an accredited program OR Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with
commitment to obtain BSN within two (2) years of hire. Active
Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
(Washington). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA) upon
hire. Minimum of three (3) years of recent Labor & Delivery nursing
experience. Demonstrated leadership experience (charge,
supervisory, or management). Preferred Qualifications Master’s
degree in Nursing or related field. At least one (1) year of
first-line nursing management experience. Experience leading teams
in a high-acuity, high-volume obstetric environment. Compensation &
