SOFTWARE ENGINEER, FACTORY AUTOMATION (STARLINK)SpaceX is developing a low latency, broadband internet system to meet the needs of consumers across the globe. Enabled by a constellation of low Earth orbit satellites, Starlink will provide fast, reliable internet to populations with little or no connectivity, including those in rural communities and places where existing services are too expensive or unreliable. We're looking for creative and driven software engineers to create the automated testing architecture for all of Starlink hardware. As a software engineer on the Hardware Test team, you will develop software that quickly and thoroughly validates that each piece of hardware on our satellites will survive/withstand launch and function in orbit. You'll work with space lasers, flight computers, high-frequency RF systems, actuators, power conversion systems, and other satellite subsystems that make up Starlink. Our engineers are endlessly curious, love to learn and try out new things, and work collaboratively across disciplines in a dynamic environment with changing needs as we strive to deliver high-impact technology on a global scale.RESPONSIBILITIES: Create modular, reusable software in Python to automate manufacturing processes and testsAutomate control of a wide variety of cutting-edge test and measurement equipmentDevelop data analysis tools to track and report trends in manufacturing dataOptimize software to eliminate production bottlenecksCollaborate directly with the design and manufacturing engineers to validate flight hardware like space lasersActively maintain tests that support rapid design iteration of flight hardware and softwareDevelop software infrastructure that enables scaling to large numbers of devices under testPropose and develop a longer-term software architecture for automated test infrastructure, encompassing instrument control, data capture and data analysisBASIC QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or similar discipline6+ years of professional experience developing software in Python, C# or other object oriented languageExperience with developing, debugging and deploying software that has been used in real world applications/projectsPREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:In depth knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems, network security, product securityCreative approach to problem solving, exceptional analytical skills and engineering fundamentalsExperience developing software used in manufacturing environments, preferably high-volumeExperience working with global contract manufacturersExcellent communication skills both written and verbalExcellent leadership, communication and teamwork skillADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Must be available to work extended hours as neededMust be willing to travel ( ITAR REQUIREMENTS:To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
