The Azure Compute team is hiring a customer-focused, technically
strong PM Manager to lead a team defining our long-term strategy
and product roadmap and individual product offerings for cloud
scale infrastructure compute platforms. In this role you will be
responsible for defining the product vision for the server
platforms that power Azure. First and foremost, you should be
passionate about engaging closely with our customers to understand
the problems they are solving and the technical and business
requirements that their workloads need. Using your strong
understanding of infrastructure, you will work together with
software and hardware engineers, our industry partners, and ODM
suppliers to define future generations of the compute platforms
that run Azure Virtual Machines, container infrastructure like
Azure Kubernetes Service, and more.
Our Compute product family is the base layer of cloud, and
powers millions of instances across Microsoft's internal properties
and our external customers' business-critical workloads. Defining
the right platform products that maximize functionality and
quality, while optimizing cost and utilization are our most
critical objectives. We are in a fast-moving competitive industry
and we are witnessing an explosion of innovation in hardware
design. In this role, you will sit at that crossroads and be
responsible for guiding this innovation to create the next wave of
exciting product offerings.
These are the core traits we believe are needed to be successful
in this role:
- 10+ years' experience in a product management role with a
technical focus (i.e., product management as part of an engineering
organization) or a Technical Program Management (TPM) role with
exposure to business and strategy aspects.
- A B.S. degree in a technical field or equivalent work
- 2+ years' experience with modern cloud infrastructure concepts
and design techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including
developing clear and compelling presentations, strategy proposals,
and product design documents for internal and external

- An MBA degree or equivalent experience working as a business
consultant for IT/technical engagements or developing strategy and
product positioning or pricing plans for technical products such as

required for otherwise qualified candidates.
- Prior experience working at a cloud or hosting company or in
the fields of telecom/networking or server hardware

cloud workloads such as enterprise IT, ecommerce, gaming, HPC, AI,
data & analytics, SaaS, PaaS, etc.

Working in the infrastructure layer, many of your customers will
be distributed systems developers and technical practitioners, so
this is a role where technical expertise in infrastructure (e.g.,
compute, networking, storage) will be very helpful. Familiarity
with hardware design processes and datacenter management at
internet/cloud scale is also valuable. As a Program Manager working
on overall strategy and roadmap, your business analytical and
critical thinking skills along with customer engagement and product
positioning insights will also be key tools in guiding product
execution over multiple timeframes in complex, ever-changing market
conditions. You will partner closely with other Program Managers
and peer engineering teams to shepherd new products to market that
will continue satisfying customer demand for more [perf,
efficiency, scale, functionality] and your work will fuel Azure's

This position includes significant flexibility in remote work
options, though this is not a 100% remote role. Travel
opportunities primarily to visit customers/partners or attend
relevant conferences will likely be available (post-pandemic) but
travel is not specifically required for this role.
