A day in the life

As a Sr. Production Material/Tooling Planner, you will be proficient with ERP/MES systems to - (1) Identify and resolve daily material issues, facilitating or expediting necessary components to support work orders, (2) Monitor inventory levels of key components and coordinate with engineers, logistics and MFG floor on arrival and use of those components, (3) Review overdue material for impact to schedule, notify Shop Floor Supervisor(s) of past due and expedite material as needed, (4) own and lead the material requirements planning processes and scheduling in the ERP/MES system as we move towards mass production.

Job responsibilities

Job Responsibilities for the Sr. Production Material/Tooling Planner Include:

  • Ensure material availability for proposed supply plan. Manage stock control and reconcile with ERP.
  • Monitors purchased and manufactured parts and tooling:

o Tracks purchased and manufactured materials delivery dates and on-time status

o Develops strong working relationships with manufacturing floor and suppliers, and works closely with them to resolve problems and issues

o Keeps program managers apprised of any changes or deviation from the plan

  • Creates manufacturing planning schedules that completely and accurately directs the manufacturing and/or production process for the applicable product build:

o Draws up master schedule to establish sequence and lead time of each operation to meet shipping dates according to forecasts or project schedules

o Coordinates with program managers and engineers to ensure that product requirements are completely and accurately incorporated into planning

o Works closely with manufacturing and production leads to ensure that assembly processes are completely and accurately incorporated into planning

o Works closely with quality engineering and quality assurance to ensure quality requirements are completely and accurately incorporated into planning

o Work with customers and suppliers to determine optimal schedule. Expedites manufacturing operations that delay schedules and alters schedules to meet unforeseen conditions.

  • Establish the Production material planning mechanisms, tools, metrics, and hire/build a team of production planning specialists as we ramp our manufacturing volumes.

  • BS/BA in Business, preferably in Supply Chain
  • 7-10 years of experience in buyer/planner/material scheduler role working for a direct manufacturer or in a electronics supply chain
  • Applied knowledge of forecasting, MRP, transportation, supply chain, inventory management and warehousing disciplines
  • Understand and comply with all FAR, DFAR, ITAR flow down requirements.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite - advanced skills with MS Excel
  • Strong sense of urgency and attention to detail
  • Able to influence others and manage conflict
  • Ability to self-direct and take constructive action in ambiguous situations
  • Analytical with methodical approach to problem solving
  • Experience establishing and employing demand-pull material planning methods
  • APICS/CSCP or CPIM certifications preferred
  • Lean Six sigma green/black belt preferred
  • Excellent organization, communication and follow-up skills
