What We Are Doing

We're looking for an experienced UX Engineer to join our product team in Redmond to support the new experiences in the recently-released Project Cortex, SharePoint Syntex, and Viva Topics offerings. Building on top of SharePoint, Microsoft Search, Azure Cognitive Services and more, we use cutting edge machine learning, computer vision, natural language, and signals intelligence services from across the company and industry to tackle the Enterprise Content Management (ECM) market.

The ideal candidate has deep technical experience with web technologies, along with a demonstrated ability to work side-by-side with designers and other engineers to preserve design integrity throughout the product development lifecycle. This person should "get" designers and how they work, with a clear understanding of design practices: interaction design, usability, visual design, and motion; and merge these with established engineering practices: dev design, internationalization, code reviews, quality assurance, etc.

  • 3+ years of shipping production software
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work well in a collaborative team environment
  • Passion for improving quality, performance & reliability of engineering systems
  • Strong coding, debugging, algorithm, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage yourself and others to meet deadlines
  • Ability to identify problems or inefficiencies, propose solutions, & drive demonstrable improvements
  • Familiarity with SCRUM and Agile methodologies

Technical Skills & Qualifications

  • Expert-level skillset inHTML/CSS/SCSS/JS
  • Experience with modern web technologies (React, TypeScript, node, npm, webpack, etc.)
  • Familiarity with software engineering patterns & practices

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, HCI, related degree, or equivalent professional experience
  • Experience with design processes (sprints, crits, etc) and tools (Figma, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc)
  • Experience writing software in Swift, Objective-C, Java, C#, XAML, etc. and a willingness to learn new technologies if needed. The role is focused on web, but mobile/native development experience can be useful

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Develop UI for new features, add fit & finish to existing features, and create complex prototypes
  • Manage your work to meet tight deadlines and ensure consistent quality
  • Coordinate with Design, PM, and Engineering teams to ensure interaction and visual designs are implemented according to design specs and motion comps
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with project teams in all stages of design and development
