Participation in the Research Internship Program requires that you are physically located in the United States or Canada for the duration of the internship.

The AI Compiler research group at MSR Redmond is looking for exceptional PhD students to work on novel algorithms, techniques, and tools for optimizing, compiling, and deploying AI workloads (both training workloads and inference workloads). The group works in the intersection of machine learning algorithms, model compression techniques, and optimized code generation for CPUs and GPUs.

In addition to the qualifications below, you'll need to submit a minimum of two reference letters for this position. After you submit your application, a request for letters may be sent to your list of references on your behalf. Note that reference letters cannot be requested until after you have submitted your application, and furthermore, that they might not be automatically requested for all candidates. You may wish to alert your letter writers in advance, so they will be ready to submit your letter.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science or related STEM field.

  • Great software engineering skills
  • Experience with AI workload optimization or model compression

Interns will work with leading experts to design and build state-of-the-art algorithms and techniques for compilation and optimization of AI workloads. An ideal intern project will result in a working software prototype and will lead to a publication in a top conference. Therefore, qualified candidates should have great software engineering skills and the ability to conduct novel research.
