Job Description:
Just - Evotec Biologics' Bioreactor Process Development group is
seeking an enthusiastic and hardworking team member who is
passionate about expanding worldwide access to biotherapeutics
through the advancement of continuous bioprocessing technology and
mammalian cell culture processes. The candidate will join a small,
fast-paced team to advance Just's pilot-scale protein production
capabilities and will work closely with both development &
manufacturing staff to improve processes and operation at all
scales. The candidate will support cell culture process development
at the pilot scale with some support of bench-scale (1-30L), assist
in media supply and hood-based cell culture, and work closely with
protein purification staff to improve integration of "upstream" and
"downstream" operations. The successful candidate will be
detail-oriented, self-motivated, and efficient in completing
hands-on laboratory tasks. They will maintain a positive attitude,
look for ways to innovate, execute on their own ideas, and
collaborate readily across functional groups. Strong written and
verbal communication skills and experience with Microsoft Office
tools are a must.Responsibilities:
- Preparing and running single-use bioreactors (pilot scale,
currently 50L scale) and assisting with bench-scale bioreactor
operation (1-30L scale) - daily sampling & analytics, cleaning and
maintenance, inoculation activities, run prep, and
troubleshooting
- Building and autoclaving tubing and filter assemblies for
single-use systems
- Performing cell culture work in an aseptic hood such as cell
passages and cell banking
- Maintaining a clean and organized lab space
- Becoming an expert in bioreactor control systems, software,
analytical equipment; maintaining and troubleshooting
instruments
- Designing, executing, and analyzing statistically designed
experiments (DOE)
- Documenting best practices and technical results in ELNs, SOPs,
summary reports, etc.
- Working with vendors and manufacturers - ordering,
troubleshooting, and developing prototypes
- Assisting with media and buffer preparation when needed
- Potential for weekend work (5-day work week/ 2 days off)
- On-call for critical bioreactor runsPreferred qualifications:
- BS in Engineering, Biochemistry, Biology, or related field and
0-2 years industry experience
- Excellent attention to detail, focused when completing
technical tasks
- Strong writing skills and efficient at documentation
- Comfortable communicating with project managers and subject
matter experts about processes and technologies
- Able to stay organized and relaxed in complex situations, keep
track of multiple tasks and data
- Enthusiastic problem-solver
- Self-motivated, able to make and follow through on goals
- Action-oriented, flexible, eager to learn and grow skill
set
- Experience with Microsoft Office apps (Word, PowerPoint,
Excel)
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally respond in
person to alarms during off-hoursPluses:
- Experience working in a cGMP or clean room setting (this job is
non-GMP but knowledge of GMP is helpful for process/tech transfer
activities)
- Experience working in retail, service industry, or other
environments that require physical work and positive attitude
- Experience with upstream and/or downstream bioprocessing
equipment, especially perfusion technology
- Experience maintaining and troubleshooting scientific or
electronic equipment
- Experience preparing cell culture media and buffers
- Experience with aseptic technique and/or small scale cell
culture
- Experience analyzing data in tools such as JMP, R, or
Python
- Experience with paper or electronic lab notebooks or other
record-keeping methods
- Experience with design of experiments (DOE) and statistical
analysis
- General understanding of circuits (grounding, power, signal,
etc.)
- General understanding of cell biology, fluid dynamics, and/or
