The Planning and Community Development (PCD) department is responding to the growing needs of the City by inviting you to consider joining us as our newest Senior Planner. As a Senior Planner, you will bring your leadership and development review experiences in urban design, site design, land use, subdivision, urban planning, community development, or environmental management to support the various projects we have. This is a hybrid position with a minimum of (3) days in the office at Redmond City Hall. ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES About You:
You are an independent analytical thinker. This position involves a lot of variations of the same issues, which requires the use of policies, analysis/implementation of the code, and common sense to solve. You enjoy the challenge of solving issues with the tools at hand and making sound defensible decisions. You have a "How can I help you?" attitude. Whether you are answering questions from residents, Planning department staff, or providing reports to another departments or agencies, you warmly welcome the chance to give them the help and support they need. We are looking for a team player with a willingness to contribute expertise and learn from others. You have a genuine passion for the work of urban development, environmental stewardship, and design. We are in the business of implementing zoning codes, regulations, and policies to further the City's vision and goals. At the Senior level, you will bring this passion to projects larger in scope, complexity, and involve more components that are usually highly controversial and in conflict with each other, thus requiring advanced level skills to navigate through the process. About the Job:
If selected for this position, these are just a few of the key job duties you will perform: Perform and manage politically sensitive professional planning projects, research, and analysis.
Be an integral part or lead, high-profile, and sometimes controversial planning initiatives, programs, and projects, including but not limited to the Redmond Zoning Code Re-write and Design Guidelines update.
Participate in several components of the state-mandated periodic review and update of the Redmond Comprehensive Plan, an effort collectively known as Redmond 2050, including land use and urban centers planning. We are looking for strong oral and written communicator with excellent project management skills.
Review and project manage large complex land use permits to ensure that the City's strategic goals and visions are enacted
Create strong and productive partnerships with project applicants and their development teams
Work directly with planning staff, interdepartmental teams, and community volunteers in the implementation of the work program and be readily identifiable as a leader. QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in urban planning, urban design and development, architecture, landscape architecture, geography, environmental science, natural resources management, transportation, public policy, engineering or related discipline.
Master's degree preferred.
Four (4) to six (6) years of professional experience in the above fields; or any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
This position is currently covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
